The Northern Regional Police Command continues to intensify operations against illicit drug trafficking and related criminal activities within the region following the redeployment of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, popularly known as the Black Maria Team.
The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, at a press briefing in Tamale, said the command has constituted its own operational team to sustain the fight against drug peddling and other crimes.
He indicated that the team has conducted several intelligence-led swoops in known drug peddling areas within the Tamale Metropolis including Aboabo Forest, Taxi Rank area, resulting in the arrest of 19 suspects.
According to him, exhibits such as quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and Tramadol tablets have been seized from the suspects.
He revealed that the suspects are currently being arraigned before the court to face prosecution.
DCOP Lavoe appealed to the public to assist the police with reliable information to tackle the illicit drug menace in the region.
