Tema-based Obonu FM organised its inaugural ‘Kenkey Party’ on Saturday as part of efforts to promote the Ghanaian delicacy, culture and also tourism.
The ceremony attracted a huge number of the station’s listeners to its premises where the party was organised amidst musical performances from Gasmilla, the Nungua Krowor Cultural Group, among others.
Loretta Vanderpuye, Regional Director of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) at Obonu FM, told NEWS-ONE in an interview that the event will in subsequent years metamorphose into a bigger and a nationwide festival.
“We decided to organise the ‘Kenkey Party’ to give our listeners a nice treat and we chose kenkey because it is the food that Ga-Adangmes like. It is about their culture. And we want to use this platform to let the world know that kenkey is a healthy food,” she added.
The ceremony had different side attractions, including a blood donation exercise, health screening and a number of other activities.
Patrons of the event ate kenkey; the very reason the party was held.
The ceremony is a yearly event scheduled for every January. Organisers are hoping to make it a nationwide festival.
