‘Ofori-Atta Surgery Successful’

Prof. Angela Ofori-Atta. INSET: Ken Ofori-Atta

Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, the wife of former Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed that he has undergone a successful surgery for prostate cancer.

The wife of the former minister, in a statement, indicated that the husband underwent “the scheduled robotic assisted radical prostatectomy” to “deal with prostate cancer and it was done at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on Friday June 13.”

The statement disclosed that the procedure took over four hours, and the doctors “are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime.”

Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta further indicated that Mr. Ofori-Atta “has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him.”

She added that the former minister is bearing up well and focused on doing whatever he can to be restored to good health.

A medical excuse letter popped up on June 3, 2025, in the midst of uncertainties concerning the medical condition of Mr. Ofori-Atta and when he would return to Ghana.

Th Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), on Monday, June 2, 2025, redeclared Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted and a fugitive from justice for failing to meet its deadline to report in person in connection with corruption and corruption-related investigations.

The Office also triggered processes for the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice of the location and provisional arrest of Mr. Ofori-Atta in whichever jurisdiction.

On June 5, 2025, Interpol placed Mr. Ofori-Atta on the Red Notice and said he is wanted on the charge of using public office for profit.

While his legal team maintain that the OSP had been informed about the former minister’s health condition, the OSP insists that till date, the former minister has failed to provide any medical report which suggests that “he is a travel risk and unable to return to the jurisdiction by reason of his medical condition.”

His family later issued a statement in which it hit back at the OSP for redeclaring him wanted and a fugitive from justice, as well as causing him to be placed on Interpol’s Red Notice.

The family, in a strong-worded statement, made several allegations against the office, including abuse of administrative power, violation of human rights, and manipulation of judicial processes.

The family has also petitioned the National Central Bureau and the Commission for the Control of Interpol’s Files for deletion of the Red Notice issued against Mr. Ofori-Atta.

“The re-posting of the Wanted Poster was a premeditated theatrical stunt—a public lynching to portray a man, scheduled for cancer surgery, as a fugitive from justice,” the family indicated in the statement.

The family has also provided clarity that the former minister will return to Ghana after his surgery to face accountability, which he is not evading.
