Ofosu-Ampofo Invited Again! Over Fires & Kidnap

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has once again invited the embattled National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, over recent happenings in the country.

It has emerged that the CID’s invitation is in respect of rampant kidnappings and fire outbreaks in the country.

He has been hauled before a commercial court in Accra together with Deputy NDC Communications Director, Anthony Kwaku Boahen, over the leaked audio recording containing the chilling strategies the NDC allegedly intends to use for 2020 elections – one being the kidnappings of family members of political opponents.

Charges

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo has been charged with one count of conspiracy to cause harm and two counts of assault against a public officer, whereas Kwaku Boahen is facing one count of conspiracy to cause harm. They both pleaded not guilty.

The tape is said to have captured how the NDC is allegedly planning to commit crimes in the country and turn round to blame them on the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

New Twist

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo is due to meet the CID boss COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah today at 2pm and expectedly the NDC would organize a crowd to besiege the Police Headquarters this afternoon.

According to a correspondence from the law enforcement agency to the party chairman and sighted by DAILY GUIDE, his name was mentioned by some suspects who were arrested in connection with arson and kidnappings that have rocked the country in recent times.

“The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into cases of kidnapping and fire outbreaks in various parts of the country,” the correspondence authored by COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on 8th May, 2019, stated.

It added that “intelligence gathered indicates that some of these kidnappings and fire outbreaks are being orchestrated by various unidentified groups, persons and individuals.

“Some of the persons, who have been arrested by the police upon interrogation, have mentioned your name as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country.

“As a result of the above information and intelligence you are kindly requested to report to the undersigned COP Maame Tiiwa Addo-Danquah on Thursday, 9th May, 2019, at 2pm to assist in our investigations.”

Overt, Covert Operations

The worrying aspects of the Ofosu-Ampofo’s leaked audio recording have prompted many in the country to question whether the ‘covert’ and ‘overt’ operations alluded to by the NDC Chairman are already operational.

Recently some GRIDCO pylons were damaged in the country following the leakage of the Ofosu-Ampofo recording.

In the recording he said the party had embarked on ‘overt’ and ‘covert’ operations in a bid to put government in bad light.

He particularly mentioned the case of a man resident at Maamobi, who he said the NDC had put fear into.

The man, he added, could no longer sleep in his family house because he was being trailed by opposition party agents.

He also talked about how they are going to infiltrate the security agencies to plan the nefarious activities.

The NDC Chairman also claimed they would ‘target’ the Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa and Peace Council Chairman Rev. Prof Emmanuel Asante.
