Nana Kow Amoasi addressing the press
The Oguaa Traditional Council has vowed to cause the arrest and prosecution of any company or events organizer who would attempt to take its powers for granted in the organization of the Fetu Afahye, an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Cape Coast in the Central Region.
This follows utterances by two Central Region based radio stations, Yes FM and Cape FM which have threatened to organize the ‘Orange Friday’ carnival which is part of the festival, without the knowledge of the Traditional Council.
The Chairman of the Afahye Planning Committee, Nana Kow Amoasi III made this known at a press conference in Cape Coast on Wednesday.
“The Cape FM with the support of Yes FM have been raining insult on us daily on their network and we cannot sit down unconcerned for them to destroy the beauty of the historic festival because we have asked them to seek permission before daring to organize the event,” he stressed.
Nana Amoasi noted that the organization of the festival has always been handled by the planning committee of the Traditional Council.
He expressed concern about the way Cape FM has been organizing the carnival without the consent of the Traditional Council.
“During the planning of this year’s Afahye Festival, another company submitted a proposal to the Traditional Council to organize the carnival and they were selected over Cape FM, a situation which has made the radio station to lambast us every day on their airwaves,” he said
Nana Amoasi, has consequently, warned that anybody who has the intention to hold any programme in this year’s festival must receive an approval from the Traditional Council before undertaking the activity.
