The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cebex Music Productions, Charles Sarpong, has disclosed that all the gospel artistes on the label, including OJ, Selina Boateng, Cynthia Maccauley and others, will not file for this year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2017.
According to the CEO, they decided to boycott the VGMA following the bribery allegation made by the Head of Communication for Charterhouse (organisers of VGMA), George Quaye, that gospel artistes offer bribe for awards.
The gospel music producer stated that the comment made by George Quaye “has dented the beauty of the award scheme and so I have decided to redraw my artistes, OJ and Selina Boateng from this year’s award until they name those behind the bribe and shame them.”
He was of the view that if such an allegation is coming from no other than George Quaye, then the stakeholders in the music industry need to act quickly to save the image of the awards scheme by putting pressure on George Quaye to name those who offered the bribe.
He added that George Quaye’s comment is derogatory and undermines the credibility of the scheme, adding, “Since George Quaye has disgraced the entire gospel artistes in the country, I therefore, entreat my colleagues to boycott this year’s award.”
