Ativi Nicholas Emmanuel Issah Mawutor with the gun and the talisman
The police have arrested a 30-year-old Okada rider said to be carrying a fully loaded gun and a talisman.
The suspect, Ativi Nicholas Emmanuel Issah Mawutor, was arrested on November 3, 2016 at about 10:30 am by the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in a special operation at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Issah Mawutor allegedly told the police upon interrogation that he acquired the weapon to protect himself.
The Accra Regional Police Commander, ACP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, told DAILY GUIDE that personnel of the MTTD arrested the suspect and further handed him over to the police.
The police said while checking the licence of the rider, the locally made pistol, the talisman and some live AAA cartridges were found in his pocket.
When the police asked how Issah Mawutor came by the weapon and what he uses it for, he claimed that he uses it only to protect himself.
ACP Bonga said the police believe Issah Mawutor is one of those miscreants who use motor bikes to rob their targeted victims.
He stressed that the police would continue to clamp down on criminals to create conducive environment for the citizens to carry on with their businesses.
