‘Okomfour Kwadee Is Not MUSIGA Member’

The second vice president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Abena Ruthy, has revealed that hiplife artiste Okomfour Kwadee is not a registered member of MUSIGA, though the union has supported him in the past.

The hiplife artiste is struggling with a mental condition after achieving popularity in the music industry some years back with hits like ‘Aboro Ne Bayie’, ‘Ataa Adwoa’,  and ‘Ka Wo Nan To So’.

As a result, music industry stakeholders have criticised MUSIGA for failing to care for the artiste in his impoverished state.

But Abena Ruthy, who waded in the discussion revolving the state of Kwadee, during an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM‘s Showbiz A-Z, insisted that Kwadee is not even a member of the union as well as not a member of MUSIGA welfare fund.

She revealed that MUSIGA has a welfare fund that is dedicated to improving the living conditions of its members, therefore, those who are not members can register to become members.

She, however, urged Ghanaians not to lay the blame solely on music organisations and the industry.

Kwadee is facing an issue which demands love, not solely the responsibility of MUSIGA, she stated, adding that MUSIGA was doing its best to help the artiste’s recovery.

Meanwhile, Captain Planet, a member of the music group 4×4, taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, urged fellow musicians to come together and support their struggling colleague rather than waiting for industry bodies to take action.

Speaking in an interview on February 8, Captain Planet revealed that he has been privately reaching out to Kwadee, but believes it is now time for a collective effort to assist him.

“I don’t want to hear the names of GHAMRO and MUSIGA, they are uncaring towards musicians. I get annoyed whenever their names are been mentioned for emphasis. They are not doing what is expected of them,” he stated.
