Alumni of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana have presented assorted food and non-food items valued over GH?5, 000 to the inmates of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital.
The items, donated by the Sons of Bacchus (SOB), included bags of rice, cartons of Ideal milk, packets of sugar, gallons of oil, toilet rolls, bars of soaps, detergents, bags of sachet water, cartons of canned of fish, among others.
Kwabena Boye Adjekumhene, who presented the items on behalf of his members, explained that the alumni of the hall have imbibed in them the values of considering the needs of others.
“Ghana’s mental health facilities have been reported to be in very terrible state. With poor conditions and low budgetary allocations, most of the nation’s mental health facilities have been in dire need for assistance for some time now hence the reason for our donation,” he said.
Receiving the items, Secretary of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital, Mr Seth Boakye, thanked the Sons of Bacchus for the kind gesture.
He appealed to other well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate them, adding that the items donated will go a long way to put smiles on the faces of the inmates of the hospital.
The members of the Sons of Bacchus, who believe in giving back to society and helping one another to improve the lives of humanity, also engaged in a clean-up exercise at the hospital.
