Car crash
One week after a fatal accident which claimed about 17 lives at Gomoa Mprumiem in the Central Region, another accident happened at the Okyereko junction on Sunday, with one person confirmed dead.
Two other people are reportedly in coma at the Winneba Specialist and Trauma Hospital.
Five other passengers, who were in very critical condition, are currently on admission at the same health facility.
Twelve others were also receiving treatment at both the Winneba Government and the Trauma and Specialist Hospitals while those who sustained minor degrees of injury were treated and discharged.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Winneba MTTD Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Charles Obiri, noted that the accident occurred as a result of wrongful overtaking.
DSP Obiri stated that VW Golf with registration number GT 1020-C from Winneba and heading towards Accra, was overtaking another, as a Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GG 2006-16 was approaching from the opposite direction and so the driver of the VW veered into the bush.
He added that the driver of the Sprinter in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, lost control and moved into the lane of an on-coming vehicle.
DSP Obiri hinted that the driver of the bus hit the front portion of another bus with registration number AS 7393-16 which was from Winneba and moving towards Accra direction.
He disclosed that the driver of the VW Golf also sustained some injuries.
