One person has been confirmed dead in renewed clashes between Konkombas and Chokosis in the North East Region.
Even though the police have officially confirmed the death of one person whose name is not readily known, there are unconfirmed reports that about six deaths have been recorded in the latest clashes between the two warring factions.
An eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that the cow of the deceased got missing and he went to search for it in a village called Bokasu, where he was shot.
The source said the Coordinating Director for the Chereponi District Fuseini Alhassan, who was also shot, sustained injuries on his way from Yendi to Chereponi.
According to the source, the police who were transporting the body to Tamale for autopsy met some of the fighters on the way and in the process exchanged fire with them, but they were overpowered and had to return to Chereponi for safety.
It was during the melée that the coordinating director was shot.
The pick-up of the coordinating directorate of the Chereponi Assembly was subsequently burnt completely by the assailants.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Office, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE and stated that two communities were also burnt.
Five persons have been already been arrested in connection with the latest clashes.
The fight started on Sunday between the people of Nambiri Zongo, a Chokosi community and a Konkomba community called Tombo, both in the Saboba District over a piece of farm land.
According to the police, a group of Konkombas burnt down Koli, near Nambiri.
The inhabitants of Nambiri launched reprisal attack by burning Nanduni, the already devastated village of the Konkombas.
