Fans of legendary Afro-rock band, Osibisa, will this Sunday witness historic performance by Osibisa group at the Virtual Hub located at East Legon (MTN office) in Accra, to entertain Ghanaian music fans.
Dubbed ‘The New Dawn Concert’, the event will witness performances from some of the renowned Ghanaian musicians which include Bessa Simons and his Bessa Band.
According to the organisers, Scratch Studio and Music Publishing, Osibisa Band will be performing to the thousands of music lovers who will make their way to the venue.
The current members of the band made up Gregg Kofi Brown, Robert Bailey, Paul Bilson, Angie Amra Anderson and Pandit Dinesh are expected to entertain the excited fans with their fusion of music in Africa, Caribbean, Jazz, funk, rock and R&B.
The Osibisa is known for its popular songs such as ‘Welcome Home’, ‘We are going (Woyaya)’, ‘Pete Pete’, ‘Black Ant’, and ‘The Coffee Song’ amongst others.
A day before the concert, Osibisa will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at this year’s edition of the Ghana Arts and Culture Awards (GACA) slated for Saturday, November 20 at the Alisa Hotel.
Gregg Kofi Brown, a leading member of Osibisa who will lead his team to receive the award, has been a member of the band for over 34 years and has travelled all over the world promoting the Ghanaian music.
Recent years has seen Gregg Kofi Brown and Osibisa support Santana on his European tour, play at the prestigious Byron Bay Blues Festival and make several tours to India.
Since joining Osibisa, Gregg has been invited to record and tour with many African and Caribbean artistes such as Youssou Ndour (Senegal), George Lee (Ghana), Marta Ulaeto (Africa Rise album for Nigeria Independence anniversary), Abdel Kabir (Lye Ngum, Gambia), Ekome (Ghana/Jamaica), Chaka Demus & Pliers (Jamaica) and Benjamin Zephania (Jamaica).
Gregg Kofi Brown is a featured vocalist and songwriter on Billy Cobham’s ‘Drum N’ Voice’ and ‘Drum N’ Voice 4’, and he has written & performed on Stanley Jordan’s album ‘Dreams of Peace’.
As a musician and singer, he has also worked with Isaac Hayes, Bomb the Bass and Finley Quaye.
They were the first band to successfully promote West African music genres, not just in Britain where they are based, but to the world, and were the first African fusion band to notch up a whole series of bestselling singles and albums in the pop charts with more international hits than any other African band.
