The Late, Barimma Osei Tutu
THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the entire Asanteman are in a state of bereavement as they have lost a prominent personality.
The head (Abusuapanin) of the Royal Oyoko Family of the Asante Kingdom – Barimma Osei Tutu – has joined his ancestors.
Reportedly, he passed away after a short illness a few days ago. Barimma Osei Tutu was said to be a nice gentleman, who acted as the Abusuapanin of the Asante Oyoko Family with flawlessness.
His reign as the Abusuapanin of the Oyoko Family, of which Otumfuo is a proud member, contributed to massive growth in Asanteman.
According to family sources, Barimma Osei Tutu was very calm and accommodative, who always embraced divergent views.
His sudden journey to join his ancestors is said to have come as a great shock to the entire royal family, especially the Asantehene.
Meanwhile, the one-week celebration of Barimma Osei Tutu was held at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Tuesday. Scores of mourners took turns to mourn with Otumfuo – the Asante Monarch.
Virtually all the members of the Royal Oyoko Family of Asante were in attendance. Prominent traditional leaders and other people were present.
The solemn ceremony was characterised by the singing of dirges. The mourners, notably women, were also seen shedding uncontrollable tears.
