Otumfuo Clocks 75 Today

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will be 75 years old today, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, and the special day will surely be marked with pomp and pageantry.

Known in private life as Barima Kwaku Duah, Otumfuo was born on May 6, 1950 at Ash Town, a popular community in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Region.

A true royal of the Golden Stool of the Asante Kingdom, he is the last child of the five children of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Barima Kwaku Duah, at the age of 49, was enstooled as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool in 1999, succeeding his late brother, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.

Whilst swearing the oath, the Asantehene promised to lead the Asante Kingdom to the Promised Land, a promise that he has fulfilled since ascending the throne.

Usually, people from all walks of life celebrate Otumfuo with warm wishes on social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp during his birthday.

Certainly, this year will not be an exception as the Asante monarch would definitely be celebrated on social media platforms by his subjects and loved ones.

The paper is yet to find out if a party would be organised at the Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi, the seat of the Asante Kingdom, to celebrate the king’s birthday today.
