A centre for leadership training, research and advocacy has been inaugurated at Mpohor in the Western Region.
The centre christened, ‘Paa Grant-Krakue-Asmah International Governance’ would help promote development in the Western Region.
It would also offer educational scholarship to brilliant but needy students in the area to further their education and develop their skills as well.
The project, which was initiated by Charles Cobbinah, a native of the region, was named after late Paa Grant, who was a wealthy merchant in the Gold Coast and two founding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)-Stephen Krakue and Gladys Asmah, who have all passed away.
Mr Cobbinah told journalists that the centre would also focus on research work and data collection on governance issues, leadership, and social matters that affect the development of the region.
He pointed out that he decided to make Mpohor the headquarters of the centre to honour Stephen Krakue, who hailed from the area.
“This is also to make Ghanaians to visit the town to know the opportunities that are available so that they can also tap into it, as well as support in advancing the economy of the Western Region,” he added.
Mr Cobbinah, who is affectionately called ‘Kempes,’ encouraged the individuals, especially those who are from the region to visit the center and support it financially.
“Training of the youth and deepening their knowledge about the NPP will also be undertaken at the centre,” he indicated.
He stressed that the centre would also honour great members of the party who have over the years made laudable contributions to the party’s formation, management and sustenance.
He mentioned that already the decision to establish the centre has been backed by NPP stalwarts in the region.
Kempes indicated that all past regional chairmen and secretaries of the NPP in the region would also be patrons of the Governance Center.
