Cynthia Lamptey
Parliament yesterday unanimously approved the nomination of the Deputy Special Prosecutor, Cynthia Jane Naa Koshie Lamptey, after her vetting by the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, May 16.
The chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, had predicted that parliament would approve her nomination after the vetting because according to him everyone on the committee was satisfied with her performance.
The minority chief whip, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, said even though some of his questions during the vetting were not satisfactorily answered by the nominee, generally she performed well and therefore qualifies to be the deputy special prosecutor.
The minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, said that he was convinced that the nominee would do a professional job at the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
He said that the notion that the Special Prosecutor (Martin Amidu) could prosecute any person who is dragged before him is wrong.
He pointed out that investigations are to be conducted into the activities of the one brought before the special prosecutor; but that does not mean it will eventually result in prosecution.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Adentan, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, commended the nominee for her brilliant performance during the vetting and wished her well in her new role as the deputy special prosecutor.
