Peace Hyde after picking her award

BRITISH-BORN Ghanaian education activist and media personality, Peace Hyde, is the recipient of the ‘African Growth Story’ award at Sanlam Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism held at a socially-distanced gala event on October 28, 2021 at Marriott Hotel in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg.

Established in 1974, the Sanlam Awards is a leading financial journalism prize in Africa, recognising exceptional business journalism on the continent in print, audio, TV, and online media, through the Category Awards, and Special Awards.

Organised in South Africa, it has become a prestigious and hotly contested accolade. The ‘African Growth Story’ category honours the journalist who best captures the growth story of the African continent. It covers in-depth reporting that highlights the African growth story, the economic awakening, and rise of the continent, and the challenges and obstacles to growth.

Peace Hyde, who is a Forbes Africa correspondent and Head of Digital Media and Partnerships for West Africa, emerged as the winner for the hotly contested category ‘African Growth Story of the Year.’

The category was selected by an independent panel of judges which includes top media experts, an academic, and an economist – who judge the awards according to the following criteria: news value, impact, rigour in reporting, analytical value, originality, integrity, specialist knowledge, and storytelling.

Commenting on her win on Instagram, the curvaceous media personality seized the opportunity to appreciate Forbes Africa, CNBC Africa for supporting her dreams, and Sanlam Group for the award.

“Thanks to my @ForbesAfrica & @CNBCAfrica family for believing in a Chemistry, Biology, and Physics teacher with a lofty media dream 6 years ago! Congratulations to all the 2021 @Sanlam.Group Excellence in Financial Journalism winners! It was an honour to be recognised and rewarded,” she wrote.

Peace Hyde in 2018 was shortlisted among 200 leaders as part of the Obama Foundation Africa Leaders programme and in 2019, was awarded the African Social Impact award at the House of Parliament, House of Commons in the UK.
