Reverend Dr. Enoch Nii Naarh Thompson
Reverend Dr. Enoch Nii Naarh Thompson, Executive President of Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC), has disclosed that ensuring peaceful coexistence is the responsibility of everyone in the country.
He said the peace of the country could be protected by everyone in holding ourselves as one people, irrespective of one’s religious or political persuasion.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 61st Session of the Ghana Baptist Convention on the theme: “Holy Spirit Power of Kingdom Expansion,” Rev. Thompson said the GBC is educating its members to become conscious of their contributions to the country’s peace.
He said Reverend Ministers of the GBC were seriously engaged in educating their members to desist from utterances that have the tendency to destruct the country.
According to him, we as human beings can put all strategies in place to ensure security, but God, the ultimate overseer of everything, takes the final decision.
Rev. Thompson expressed optimism that, God being gracious to Ghana over the years, will continue to be gracious to the country, especially, before, during and after every election.
He explained that there were inter-tribal marriages in the country, hence addressing issues based on tribes were baseless.
The GBC Executive President entreated Ghanaians to vote based on the credibility of the candidates and not on tribal lines or one’s political affiliation.
Rev. Dr. Cyril G.K Fayose, General Secretary of Christian Council Ghana (CCG), reminded Ghanaians that, this year is another important year in the political life of the country.
He said the December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections is a peculiar one where religion, ethnicity, youth unemployment, illegal mining, and fake news on social media were major influencing factors.
Rev. Fayose noted that as part of preparations to ensure peace before, during and after the elections, and also to ensure that righteousness and justice prevails, the Council has officially outdoored the Eminent Persons Group and the Ethical Leadership Conferences.
He said the Eminent Persons Group will monitor and observe the electoral processes while the Ethical Leadership Conference will sensitise important stakeholders like political party activists, youth leaders, faith-based organisations, the Electoral Commission and security agencies.
The Christian Council General Secretary said the sensitisation aims to enhance the peace and cohesion of the nation after the elections.
