Petroleum Hub Ready To Take Off

All is set for the commencement of the much talked about Petroleum Hub to be constructed in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region.

President Nana Akufo-Addo will therefore visit Nawole in the Municipality on Monday, August 19, 2024 to cut sod for the start of the project.

Chief Executive Officer of the Jomoro Petroleum Hub Development Cooperation, Charles Owusu, disclosed this at a community engagement organised in collaboration with the Western Nzema Traditional Authority.

He said the hub is a ground breaking project which is intended to be a leading integrated petroleum complex to add value to the upstream and downstream oil and gas value chain in the country and Africa.

“It will house a complex web of onshore, offshore and ancillary assets not limited to refineries, petrochemical plants and storage tanks.

A total of 780,000 jobs is expected to be created during the development phase and beyond with significant positive outlook on the economy,” he said.

Mr. Owusu added that the project is expected to transform the country’s economy through export tax of about $1.56 billion and increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by about 70%, when completed.

He hinted that even though a total of about 20,000 acres of land has been acquired for the project, about 11,000 acres would be used for the project specifically and the rest used for recreational centers and other ancillary projects.

This was in reaction to allegations that the government is taking all the farm lands in the area for the project.

He pointed out that all requisite compensations will be duly paid.

The paramount chief of Gwira Traditional Area, Awulae Angamtu-Egyan, who chaired the occasion called on all to embrace the project as measures are being put in place to ensure its smooth take off.
