Captain of Professional Golfers Association (PGA), John Kwaku Mawuli (John Wonders) has honoured Beatrice Mawuli Nyarko, his mother in a special tournament at the Tema Country Golf Club.
The 18-hole maiden competition (The Beatrice Mawuli Nyarko Memorial) was opened to pro-golfers in the country.
The PGA captain, organizer of the event in a post- event interview said “My mother passed on when l was just two, but l believe her spirit is always with me. I am doing this to honour her. We hope to push it a notch higher in subsequent editions.”
Ernest Opoku picked the ultimate prize after a 65 gross score, while EK Owusu (67) and PK Amenyor (68) followed in that order.
And for their respective prizes, they took home cash prizes and trophies.
Manasseh Augustine returned a 70 net score to win the amateur segment with Teye Lartey and EK Ocansey finishing second and third with 73 and 74 scores respectively.
Celebrity Golf Club’s lady captain, Helen Appah won the ladies top prize with an 80 net score.
Tema Golf Club captain, Joseph Nettey described 2018 as a challenging year, but expressed the hope that this year would be better.
He commended the organizer for a well organized event.
Mawuli expressed thanks to Miss Jacqueline Bankah, HR Manager, Niche Chocolate, Tang Palace Hotel, Accra, Morten Gade, MD, Ghacem Ghana Limited and Asogli Power Ghana Limited for their respective contributions to the event.
