The Tema Country Golf Club will host a new competition arranged by executives and sponsors of the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGA).
Dubbed ‘PGA Gold Fields Accra Tournament’, the competition is expected to tee off from tomorrow to Saturday.
PGA Ghana Vice Captain Eric Henaku said in an interview that it is a competition designed to prepare the grounds for the major annual Gold Fields PGA championship scheduled at Damang in December.
Mr. Henaku mentioned that about 45 professionals were drawn from clubs like Achimota, Celebrity, Royal Golf Club, Tarkwa, Obuasi, Takoradi, Tema and other golf clubs across the country.
A mouthwatering purse of GH¢40, 000 is at stake for the tournament, of which GH¢35,000 and GH¢5,000 have been budgeted for regular and seniors respectively.
There will be no cut system format after the second day rather, all the 45 will play for the three days.
Meanwhile, the first 18 placed players will take home cash prizes with the winner grabbing GH¢6,000.
Kojo Barnni (Western Tour Champion), Vincent Torgah (West Africa Tour Champion) and Emos Korblah (the only Ghanaian professional golfer who has represented Ghana twice in British Seniors Open) have confirmed participation.
Also expected to battle for honours are Maxwell Owusu Bonsu, Lucky Ayisah, Godwin Sai, Anthony Gbenyo, Stephen Korku Klah, all of Achimota, John ‘Wonders’ Mawuli of Celebrity Golf Club, tournament director Nana Akwasi Prempeh and former captain of PGA Solomon Harvey, both of Damang and Nsuta respectively.
