Edwin Quartey
Nothing means so much to Ghanaian lawyer and CEO of Eddy’s Pizza, Edwin Quartey, than his pizza business, which he says is doing very well in Ghana’s culinary scene.
He told NEWS-ONE on Sunday that he does not regret going into the business, indicating it has even taken over his passion for his law career.
“I am a lawyer by profession but I am having so much fun with Eddy’s Pizza that I don’t even want to practise law,” he revealed.
“I am still under training in the USA and also in Ghana here, but I am having fun with the pizza business. My passion for law is not like it used to be. My passion now is for my pizza business. Sometimes I can’t wait to wake up to start making pizza and making sure that everything is right. I used to have that passion for law like that; waking up early and going to jails, chasing clients and chasing other lawyers but I don’t have that passion anymore. Pizza is my passion now,” he added.
Edwin, together with his twin brother Edward, started Eddy’s Pizza about nine years ago. They were both living in the USA when they decided to come home and start the business.
Currently, Eddy’s Pizza is one of the most exquisite pizza outlets in Ghana, providing a variety of pizza menu, including pepperoni, margherita, four-cheese margherita, veggie lovers, BBQ chicken, fruit pizza and more.
Besides pizza, it also prepares sandwiches, rice, hot beverages, cold beverages, smoothies, fresh juices, milk shakes, desserts, among others.
“When we started, competition was non-existent but now we have different pizza outlets. Competition is good; it brings the best out of everybody. It made us stay up and do our best. We didn’t sit back and say we made it, we kept pushing,” he disclosed.
Edwin indicated that when they started, their biggest challenge was importing cheese from the USA, but as time went by, things became easier.
Currently, the business has not only grown but they’ve also provided jobs for a lot of young people.
The business, he added, will be expanding to Nigeria very soon and other parts of Ghana.
Edwin started his basic school at Datus and continued at the Adisadel College, where he completed secondary education in 1979. Then he went to the University of Alaska and Howard University in DC before going to Law School. He practised law for about 17 years before he came back to Ghana to establish Eddy’s Pizza.
“I am happy. I consider myself the happiest person,” he concluded.
