Who Pockets ?20,000? …In Goldfields PGA Ghana Tourney

A Colossal amount of ¢20,000 is at stake for the winner of this year’s Goldfields Ghana Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGAGhana) Championship.

And for the first time, the winner would be decorated with the Blue Jacket as practised in European Masters’ championship in the competition scheduled from November 30 to December 3 at the Damang Golf Club.

Goldfields Ghana Limited, title sponsors for the championship have also injected about $US70,000 by way of  sponsorship for the competition.

President of the PGAGhana, Bliss B.K Ayivor said the tournament will attract golfers from Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and South Africa.

“The prize money at stake will stir up interest in the golfers therefore we hope to see an exciting competition at Damang,” he said.

Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa of Goldfields, Alfred Baku noted that the company’s interest in the championship has soared to giddy proportions.

He mentioned that the sport of golf should be supported to the hilt to make the game tick at the professional level.

He assured that his company will go the whole hog in terms of its support for the PGA championship, adding that raising the bar in the upcoming championship is a test-case for all to see that their partnership with the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana has been fruitful.

Tournament Director and defending champion, Emos Korblah mentioned that about 80 professional golfers are expected to participate in the four-day competition and would be cut to 24 after the second day.

The seasoned golfer said the 24 who will make it to the next two days will be given cash prizes.

The competition is supported  by Total, Stanbic, Connell Mining, Stellar Logistics, Real Mining Supply, ATS, BILAL and ZEN Petroleum.
