The Upper East Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has intensified its investigations and search for persons illegally possessing and using dangerous weapons in Kandiga in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality, which is not too far from Burkina Faso.
This follows a recent arrest of some six persons from Kandiga by the police and other security agencies who are working to keep peace in the area.
The security personnel seized some dangerous weapons, including two pump action guns, live cartridges, and a cutlass in possession of the individuals arrested in the swoop.
The Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Dr. Sayibu Gariba, who briefed the media in Bolgatanga, said the individuals were spotted at some hideouts with some dangerous weapons, contrary to a temporary ban on the use and possession of weapons, in line with peacekeeping measures in the troubled area.
The police commander said they will not relent in their efforts to arrest anyone or group that have a hand in the continuous disturbances in the Kandiga area.
DCOP Dr. Gariba has asked the public, especially residents of the community, to always report to the security any miscreant who would want to take the law into his/her hands to disturb the existing peace in their area.
He called on opinion leaders and residents in the region to continue preaching peace and tranquillity to pave way for more development.
The Kandiga and neighbouring Doba have been disputing for some years over a piece of land.
There have been efforts by the Regional Security Council and organisations to restore peace into these two feuding communities and the recent arrests are part of the measures to check persons in the area who are bent on fomenting trouble.
