A police officer suffered bruises on his body after he was brutalised by his colleagues in Winneba in the Central Region last Saturday.
Detective Inspector Frank Kpei of the District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID) in Winneba was taken to the Winneba Police Station by his aggressors? police officers of the Rapid Deployment Force Headquarters (RDF HQ), who were returning to their Accra base after duties during the Aboakyir Festival in Winneba.
There was disagreement between the victim and his colleagues over the management of a traffic situation at the end of the festival in Winneba.
The brutalised cop disagreed with the diversion ordered by an RDF inspector, resulting in the nasty situation.
At the district charge office where he was taken to by the RDF team after sustaining injuries, he narrated that the incident occurred in the evening of last Saturday when he was in a taxi going home after the festival.
Upon reaching a spot close to the Winneba taxi rank, Inspector William Akakpo of the RDF reportedly directed the taxi to divert its route, a decision which caused traffic congestion.
He said he drew the attention of Inspector William Akakpo to the situation, but he became angry and asked who he was.
He said he introduced himself as a detective inspector with the Winneba Police, but the furious William Akakpo dragged him from the taxi and together with other personnel from the RDF, who were at the scene, physically assaulted him in the presence of witnesses.
Continuing, he said that an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) called Sarpor, who was in charge of the officers, did nothing to stop his men from their unprofessional action.
ASP Sarpor claimed D/Inspr Frank Kpei had obstructed, attacked and tore the uniform of Inspector William Akakpo while he was helping to direct and control traffic, which had built up around the taxi rank area after the festival.
The ASP claimed Detective Inspector exhibited insubordination towards him at the charge office.
