THE ASHANTI Regional Police are on the heels of six unknown robbers who reportedly stormed a remote town and robbed some people of their raw gold and other valuables.
The six robbers, for some hours, took total control of Manso-Mossikrom, a village in the Amansie South District. They also shot and wounded two of their victims during the robbery expedition.
The horrific robbery incident happened on Thursday, June 17, 2021 around 2am when the village was virtually like a ghost town. The robbers were said to be heavily armed with scary weapons.
According to the police, the robbers clearly had a field’s day as they robbed a number of gold dealers in the community of their raw gold, mobile phones and other valuables and fled the area.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Agyeman Adjem, has passionately appealed to the public to feed the police with vital information to help arrest the runaway robbers.
“Police will appeal to the residents in the community to provide us with credible information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals,” he stated during a press conference in Kumasi.
According to him, the police received a distress call around 2am on that day (Thursday) to the effect that some hoodlums, who were wielding guns and machetes, were robbing some gold dealers.
“The SWAT team stationed at Manso Adubia District Command proceeded to the scene, but the alleged robbers had already fled the scene,” the Deputy Regional Commander said.
Preliminary investigation, he said, indicated that some six armed men wielding pump action guns and machetes went to Manso-Mossikrom and attacked some gold buyers, robbed them of unspecified amount of money, quantity of raw gold and mobile phones.
“The robbers also shot and wounded two persons who were later rushed to the St. Martins Catholic Hospital at Manso Agoroyesum, where they were admitted and are undergoing treatment,” he said.
DCOP Adjem said, “The police also retrieved 15 empty cartridges from the scene and have retained same for evidential purposes,” adding that the robbers are being chased to face prosecution.
