The Eastern Regional Police Command has denied the arrest of the former Youth and Sports Minister, Issac Asiamah, for reckless driving at Bunso junction.
In a statement issued by the Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Tetteh, said, “The police are not the source of the information making the rounds of the arrest of the former Minister.”
It, however, said the police, in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority, on December 24, 2021, arrested five drivers for “flouting several Road Traffic Regulations.”
The arrests were done by the two security bodies during a special road safety exercise at Bunso and other notable areas in the Eastern Region on December 24 to prevent road traffic accidents.
The statement said the suspect drivers posed danger to other road users as they ignored Road Traffic Regulations.
The suspect drivers, Essifil Seidu driver of Toyota Land Cruiser, GT 9747-21, Kwame Kyiritwe driver of Toyota Prado, GR 8981-18, Kodua Tweneboah driver of Vehicle, DP 2519K-21 were charged and cautioned for reckless driving.
Lamininu Kawae, driver of vehicle, AS 8545-20, was charged and cautioned for using a defaced number plate and lack of maintenance.
The suspect, Francis Kwame Amoah, driver of Toyota V8 Land Cruiser, DV 7566D-21, was charged and cautioned for unlawful use of siren and strobe lights.
The police cautioned the public to conform to all Road Traffic Regulations to prevent needless accidents during the festive season.
