The two suspects

HAMZA AGEREGO (Nene Bawku/Lambert) and Alhassan Elliasu, also known as Arab Man, are the two additional suspects in police custody, arrested on January 7, 2026, from their Ashaiman hideout in connection with the 2024 Adabraka jewellery shop robbery.

Their arrest follows an earlier breakthrough in the case with the arrest of a key suspect, Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, on November 20, 2025.

The arrest, made by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Inspector General of Police, Ghana Police Service, led to the recovery of two pump-action guns, 43 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 239 BB cartridges, four bulletproof vests, a black boot, a black face mask, two cutlasses, two Samsung mobile phones, an iPhone 13, a wristwatch, and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitor.

According to a statement issued by the Police Service, suspect Hamza Agerego was first arrested and detained at the Katamanso District Police Headquarters in connection with the robbery.

“Acting on intelligence, an operation was conducted at Ashaiman, leading to the arrest of suspect Alhassan Elliasu at his hideout. A search of the premises led to the arrest of the suspects currently in police custody, assisting investigations, and will be put before court to face the full rigours of the law,” part of the statement read.

The Adabraka jewellery shop robbery, which occurred on Saturday, November 2, 2024, threw the Adabraka market area into panic when four masked and heavily armed men carried out a bold robbery in broad daylight. The assailants targeted a man sitting in a red Toyota Corolla car parked near the busy market, firing several warning shots into the air to disperse traders and shoppers.

Eyewitnesses said the gunshots triggered chaos, forcing people to flee and abandon their stalls as the robbers carried out the attack in full view of the public. One person sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony of 100 new police vehicles on Thursday, January 8, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, revealed that the suspects were apprehended in Ashaiman, following extensive intelligence operations.

“I am happy to announce that, following intensive intelligence operations, two additional suspects linked to the Adabraka gold shop robbery have been arrested this dawn at Ashaiman.”

“We recognise that modern crimes know no borders, and that is why we have strengthened our cooperation through INTERPOL, WAPCO, and other diplomatic channels,” IGP Yohuno stated.
