Police Patrols Kumasi Race Course

THE ASHANTI Regional Command is set to embark on patrols at the refurbished Race Course bus terminal in Kumasi.

The move is one of the initiatives by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to help protect traders.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the KMA, Mr. Godwin Okumah Nyame, made the disclosure on radio on Monday.

According to him, recently, a lot of traders in the various parts of Kumasi have moved to the Race Course to trade.

He stated that hoodlums usually take advantage and carry out their operations at trading places like the Race Course.

Mr. Okumah Nyame said even though the KMA had not yet detected any threat at the Race Course, they don’t want to be complacent.

He indicated: “Robbers and pickpockets usually operate in busy areas such as the Race Course bus terminal and the KMA is aware. We don’t want to record theft and robbery reports at the Race Course; hence we will engage the police to patrol the area”.

The KMA PRO expressed delight in how traders in the city had been trooping to the Race Course to ply their trade lately.

He entreated other traders that are still plying their trade on the streets to refrain from the practice since it poses a major threat to their lives.

According to him, it is suitable for hawkers and traders to trade at the Race Course. He, therefore, urged the traders to move to the place.

It would be recalled that the KMA refurbished the Race Course bus terminal to accommodate some traders in the city.

The refurbishment exercise became necessary following the reconstruction of the Kumasi Kejetia bus terminal project.

Most of the traders in the city had been relying on the Race Course terminal to trade since the commencement of the Kejetia project.
