THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command is investigating a case in which a man claimed he was kidnapped before escaping from his captors.
The kidnapping victim claimed his captors took him from Taabuom near Kumasi to the Eastern Region for some days before he was able to escape.
According to the victim, who was speaking on Akoma FM, his captors drained his blood whilst in their custody.
According to the victim and his mother, one Linda Ofori, they reported the case to the police and were thoroughly interrogated by the police at the Regional Headquarters at Adum, Kumasi, on Monday.
The Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, on Akoma FM on Tuesday, confirmed that the interrogation took place.
The Police PRO said the kidnapping victim and his mother cooperated well when they were invited to the regional headquarters.
ASP Ahianyo said the answers provided by the victim and his mother, hopefully, would help the police in their efforts to unearth the truth of the case.
He said checks made by the police, so far, have revealed that Linda Ofori, reported to the Taabuom police of her missing son.
He said Linda Ofori was issued with a police form to make an announcement on radio about her missing son, but she did not return to the police on any development.
“On Monday, the police heard Linda Ofori and her son (victim) on radio detailing how the victim managed to escape from his captors in the Eastern Region. The Regional Command realised that such a serious case should not only be discussed on radio, whilst the perpetrators roamed about freely, so the police invited the mother and son.”
ASP Ahianyo said the Taabuom police has so far issued a medical report to the victim so the police were waiting for the results to verify if indeed the boy’s blood was drained by his captors as claimed.
“The results of the medical report will determine the next line of action of the police,” he said.
