The guns and ammunition on display
THE BONO Regional Police Command has recovered five assorted firearms following an intelligence-led operation against notorious robbery gangs operating within the region.
According to a police report, following an intelligence gathering on February 11, 2026 that a gang had planned an attack on traders travelling along Dormaa-Gonokrom highway, surveillance teams were immediately deployed to foil the intended robbery.
In the early hours of February 12, 2026, officers advancing near a parked motorbike came under gunfire from nearby bushes. Police returned fire, and a search at daybreak found one male suspect dead, with an AK47 rifle beside him.
They recovered a sack containing weapons and ammunition, including two Baikal single barrel guns, a pump action gun, one Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition plus 34 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one AK47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition plus 10 rounds of ammunition, 39 rounds of BB cartridge, one dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask, and a set of talisman.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer, Bono Regional Police Command, in a statement, assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining gang members and bring them to face justice.
The command also called on the public to assist the police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of persons involved in criminal activities.
