Fast-rising Ghanaian actor, Caleb Oteng Owiredu-Ofori, has made a passionate call for increased funding and support for the local film industry, warning that the lack of financial backing is leading to a painful waste of talents across the country.

Speaking at the just-ended premiere of ‘The December Blues’, Caleb did not hold back as he addressed industry stakeholders, creatives, and movie lovers present at the event.

“Ghana has incredible acting talent, storytellers, directors, and crew members. But without proper funding, many of these talents never get the opportunity to grow, be seen, or even survive in the industry,” he said.

According to the young actor, the persistent funding challenges facing Ghana’s movie industry have forced many promising creatives to abandon their dreams or seek opportunities elsewhere, leaving the local industry struggling to reach its full potential.

Caleb Oteng Owiredu-Ofori, whose performance in ‘The December Blues’ has attracted positive reviews, believes strategic investment, structured funding, and stronger private–public partnerships could transform Ghanaian cinema and position it competitively on the global stage.

He reiterated that, Ghana’s film industry is rich in talent but poor in funding—and until that gap is addressed, many brilliant stories and careers may never see the spotlight they deserve.

He also highlighted the need for movie producers and directors to jump on the bandwagon of transitioning from the local way of movie distribution and leverage on the growing interest of YouTube movies.
