Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV
The Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, has urged President Akufo-Addo to lay solid foundation for a remarkable transition from his leadership to his successor in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when the President is exiting power in 2024 after two terms constitutional term limit.
According to the traditional leader, the toils of the NPP will be in vain if they fail to work harder to break the eight-year jinx and continue from where the President ended.
Since the commencement of the Fourth Republic, no political party has managed to go beyond its eight-year mandate after assuming the reins of power.
However, the chief is of the opinion that the NPP is capable of breaking the jinx if they are able to work even harder.
Osadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw made the call at a durbar of chiefs and people of Techiman to welcome President Akufo-Addo and his entourage to the traditional area.
The President visited Techiman as part of his two-day working visit to the Bono East Region during which the Omanhene assured him of Nananom’s readiness to assist him prepare a good successor to continue good policies and programmes such as the Free SHS, One District, One Factory (1D1F), Planting for Food and Jobs and a host of flagship programmes initiated by the government.
He said the people of Techiman had been beneficiaries of such good policies of the NPP government, and praised the President for his work, while asking for more development projects in the municipality.
The Omanhene singled out school infrastructure for Techiman Senior High School (SHS), Abrefi Koto SHS and upgrading of some town roads in the area as things that require the government’s attention.
President Akufo-Addo, responding, expressed appreciation to the Omanhene for his support and commendation, and indicated that he was committed to total development of every part of the country.
He assured Nananom of more developmental projects in Techiman, as he inaugurated three-unit staff quarters for senior staff of Bono East Regional Coordinating Council built at the cost of GH¢2.1 million.
Nkoranza Durbar
The President also visited Nkoranza where the Paramount Chief of the area, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, said the President’s reputation of resilience and courage has been exemplified in the unprecedented achievements in the area.
According to Nana Baffoe IV, the decision to decentralise state institutions beyond the regional capital, resulting in the establishment of the Regional Education Directorate in Nkoranza and the Health Directorate in Kintampo, all under the Nkoranza Traditional Area, remains the single most well-thought through idea to equitably develop every part of the country.
The chief said the infrastructure project of the Akufo-Addo government remained unparalleled and pointed to the construction of dining hall, 12-unit classroom block, assembly hall, and two-unit girls dormitory block for Nkoranza Technical Institute as some of the projects.
Nana Baffoe IV also mentioned the construction of 16 other 3-unit classroom blocks across the district in the first term of the President and described it as “truly unprecedented.”
He was grateful for the inclusion of Nkoranza North to the beneficiary districts for the government’s Agenda 111 project and appreciated the government for the construction of new nurses’ quarters in Tumiebu, a Maternity Block at Dromankese, and the provision of an ambulance for Nkoranza.
On roads, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV thanked the President for the commencement of phase 2 works on the Jema Nkwanta-Asekye road, which, when completed, will reduce travel time between the North, Bono East and Ashanti regions.
He also said there was a steady progress of work on the Yefri, Boana and the Tanoboase roads that link Nkoranza, and added that the new warehouses at Yefri and Donkro Nkwanta would help eliminate post-harvest losses in the area.
He also mentioned that the supply of 100,000 cashew seedlings yearly to tree crop farmers was a welcome initiative.
