Choreographers from Immanuel Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministry in Madina have won 2018 Youth Link dancing competition dubbed ‘Save The Last Dance For Jesus’.

They scored 169 points to take home the enviable trophy, a certificate of participation and souvenirs from the sponsors, among other items.

Reigning champions Action Chapel, Spintex, Accra, came second with163 points, while the Ghana Police Church placed third with 156 points.

Eight children’s ministry participated in the keenly contested event, which was held at the Ghana Police Church on Saturday.

The competition was based on a couple of criteria like how well choreographers made use of the time allotted for each performance, technique, creativity, content and team spirit that linked them while on stage.

Speaking at the ceremony, the executive director of Youth Link Ghana indicated that the ‘Save The Last Dance For Jesus’ is a flagship project instituted 12 years ago to help children with dancing abilities to unearth and develop their respective talents.

He further indicated that it was a project instituted to encourage children to have fun while embarking on a worthwhile programme, adding that the winner of the programme is mandated to embark on a fundraising effort for an identifiable deprived group or institution.

Florence Adjepong, head of department, Action Chapel Children’s Ministry, Spintex, called on the children to lead Christ-like lives even in the wake of very challenging times.

Mrs Adjepong, who is also the principal of Alpha Beta School, urged the children to read their Bibles, pray every day and join in the crusade to evangelise, adding that “there is no age restriction on fulfilling the work of Christ in the great Commission.”

Other guests at the event were Margaret Dery (Miss Ghana 2017) and Pearl Nyarko-Mensah (Miss Malaika 2017). They both called on the children to develop a ‘can do’ spirit in whatever they do.

The judges for the event were Stephany Ursula Yamoah from the National Dance Company and Kweku Boateng from the University of Ghana.
