Presby Gets New Moderator

Prof. Cephas Narh Omenyo

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has climaxed its 16th General Assembly at Abetifi Kwahu in the Eastern Region with the election of Rev. Prof. Cephas Narh Omenyo as the new Moderator to succeed Rt Rev Professor Emmanuel Martey.

Rev. Omenyo was elected in a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ vote Wednesday after none of the contestants had failed to secure a 70 percent plus endorsement for their nominations. He managed only 57 percent (116 votes).

His contenders, Rev Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante and Rev. Hubert Anim Oppong, managed 29 percent (60 votes) and 13 percent (27 votes) respectively for their nominations, thus shifting the selection process into an election.

The two, however, considering their performance, withdrew from the election and so 209 delegates (96.76%) voted ‘Yes’ while seven (3.2%) voted ‘No.’
