Prof. Dua Agyeman Resigns From Audit Service Board

The Chairman of the Audit Service Board, Professor Edward Dua Agyeman, has resigned from the Audit Service Board effective May 31, 2025.

In a statement issued and signed by Prof. Dua Agyeman on May 30, 2025, he thanked President John Mahama for giving him the opportunity to serve, and disclosed that he resigned for personal reasons.

“Your Excellency, in view of  the above, a vacancy has been created and as required  under  section 5(3) of the Audit Service Act, 2000 (Act 584), this letter seeks to notify you of my  resignation,  to enable  you to take the necessary action,” the letter stated.

Prof. Agyeman was appointed the Chairman of the Audit Service Board by former President Akufo-Addo in 2017, and remained the Chairman of the Audit Service Board until his resignation on May 31, 2025.

Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor appointed Professor Edward Dua Agyeman as the Auditor-General in April 2001, and he served under the late Professor John Atta Mills until May 2010 when he retired as the Auditor-General.

Prof. Agyeman served under the late J.J. Rawlings during the PNDC era as a Deputy Auditor-General from July 1987 to June 1989.

Report indicates that he has served under all the five presidents in the Second Republic; from April 2001 to December 2008 under ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor and from January 2009 to May 2010 under the late President John Atta Mills, as the Auditor-General.

In 2017, he served as the Chairman of the Audit Service Board under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to December 2024, and under President John Dramani Mahama from January 2025 to May 2025, when he resigned for personal reasons.

As the Auditor-General of Ghana, Prof. Edward Dua Agyeman also championed transformative changes within the Ghana Audit Service, strengthening its position as an esteemed Supreme Audit Institution.

His tenure also witnessed the implementation of progressive initiatives that enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of the Ghana Audit Service while creating Assistant Auditor-General’s post, the establishment of the legal unit and the creation of 11 district audit offices to enhance audit coverage.
