Queen Mothers, Widows Protest

SOME queen mothers and widows at Anyaboni, a farming community in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region have hit the streets protesting alleged attacks and harassment on them by Fulani herdsmen in the area.

According to the aggrieved women, they were unable to go to their farms due to fear of being attacked and raped by the Fulani herdsmen, who have invaded the community with their cattle destroying their farms.

The women, clad in red dresses and head gears, on Thursday, January 19, stormed the District capital, Asesewa, to embark on a peaceful march to petition the District Police Commander, the Member of Parliament for the area and also forwarded a petition to the Regional Police Command.

The women added that the nomads have also polluted their river bodies and threatened to rape and kill them as well.

They also claimed that the men who earlier fought the nomads were arrested and put before court, hence men in the community were reluctant to fight them again.
