Aliu Mahama Foundation Blasts Haruna Attah

The lateĀ Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

The Aliu Mahama Foundation has described Haruna Attah, a veteran Ghanaian journalist, as a liar for making erroneous comments about former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

Haruna Attah, Ghanaā€™s High Commissioner to Namibia, in a recent article, castigated the 2016 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo for allegedly making some remarks.

ā€œHaruna, your support for Aliu is flawed. If you think our party will cede its Akan leadership, you are wrong,ā€ Haruna Attah quoted Nana Addo as saying in the article.

ā€œI shared a lot of private moments with the late Vice President and he often poured his lamentations about the politics of the system to me,ā€ Haruna Attah added.

However, the Aliu Mahama Foundation has described the comments by Haruna as ā€œirritating and backward.

ā€œThe Foundation finds it extremely disturbing that Haruna Attah would lie about a faithful Ghanaian servant just to advance a political mileage.

ā€œThis betrayal and back-stabbing behavior exhibited by a senior member of the journalism industry is irritating and backward,ā€ Dr. Samuel K. Frimpong, Executive Director, Aliu Mahama Foundation said in a statement released yesterday.

He said the Foundation would like to put on record that late Alhaji Aliu Mahama was never favoured or discriminated against because of his ethnic background.

ā€œHe believed that politics or election is an issue of lose or win, hence he accepted the results of 2007 NPP primaries in good faith.

ā€œHis competence and achievements speaks volume of the quality of the man. Alhaji Aliu Mahama served this nation as Vice President through the political party he was affiliated to, with dignity and utmost commitment,ā€ Dr. Frimpong said.

He advised Haruna Attah to respect the memory of the late Aliu Mahama not out of fear but because it is the proper human thing to do.

ā€œHe should allow the gentle soul of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama to rest in peace.

ā€œThe Foundation would not want to be drawn into the political space by the kind of misrepresentation that some section of the Ghanaian public finds convenient for their political gain,ā€ the former aide to the late Vice President said.

Aliu Mahama died in November 2012 at the age of 66.

His Foundation, which was established in 2011, contributes towards addressing health challenges and alleviating poverty in Ghana.
