Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng
A member of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, has denied allegations that he was arrested and detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) last Friday.
According to him, he had traveled out of the country and was shocked to note on his return that there were rumours about his alleged arrest and detention by the NIB.
The founder of Power Chapel Worldwide, addressing his congregation on Saturday, urged them to ignore the rumours, describing it as some people trying to use his name for their personal gains.
There were multiple media reports over the weekend about his alleged arrest by the NIB, with some claiming it had to do with his ‘double identities.’
Social media was awash with the news, with some praising the security for picking him up while others thought it was nothing but a power play.
But Rev. Kusi Boateng, addressing his congregation on Saturday, indicated that he was never arrested by the NIB as reported, and not running away from accountability as being claimed.
“They say I am running away, who am I running away from? I am a law-abiding citizen. I have not stolen anything from anyone. If you hear rumours of my arrest, just drink water and sleep. I am standing here before you, perhaps it is my ghost that has been arrested,” he told his congregation.
He wondered what the world was turning into, with both mainstream media and social media spreading false news without confirming first.
“What is this world that we are living in, pastors are lying, church members are lying, social media is full of lies… what kind of a world is this?” he queried.
Rev. Kusi Boateng further clarified that he had attended a meeting for a discussion regarding the National Cathedral following his return to the country after the trip, and wondered how that resulted in the rumours about his arrest and detention.
He assured the congregation that he will not do anything to disgrace them, stating, “If you want to arrest me because of the National Cathedral, then what? We are focused on doing the right thing to glorify the Lord.”
He further assured the congregation that he has done nothing wrong, and urged them to remain calm in the midst of the rumours of his arrest.
“If you know where we are coming from and where God has brought us now, we are not afraid about what someone will say about us or arrest us, for the rest, no one can change our destiny,” Rev. Kusi Boateng added.
