DCOP Akwasi Duku
THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command has declared three people wanted, including Mohammed Tanko aka ‘Afoko’.
Afoko and his two cohorts namely Alhassan and Anyas allegedly led a mob, broke into the Ejura Police Station and took away seized motorbikes.
The incident happened two days ago (September 29) after the Ejura Police had seized 30 unregistered motorbikes.
The wanted men also caused damage to some items after they had led a massive group to invade the police station to steal the motorbikes.
Police records indicated that the three men and their group of irate youth took away motorbikes and tricycles that do not belong to them.
Their action amounts to stealing and so the police are leaving no stone unturned in their resolve to apprehend them to face the law of the state.
Wanted Order
Declaring Afoko and his group wanted, DCOP Akwasi Mensah Duku, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, vowed to arrest them to face the law.
According to him, under no circumstance should the public invade a police station and forcibly take away seized items as Afoko and his group did.
DCOP Mensah Duku told DAILY GUIDE that the police had intensified search to smoke out the suspects from their hiding holes.
He therefore entreated the public, especially anyone that has information about where the three people are hiding, to assist the police to arrest them.
Motors Seizure
DCOP Duku said the police embarked on a massive operation on September 27 and that led to the seizure of unregistered motorbikes.
Those who ride motorbikes without license, crush helmet and insurance were also arrested by the police.
According to him, 14 out of 28 people arrested appeared before the Ejura District Court on September 28 when arraigned.
The police capo said the 14 that were in court pleaded guilty and they were sentenced to a fine ranging from GH¢ 840 to GH¢ 1,020, which they paid.
The court, which was presided over by His Lordship, Divine Hiadu, also issued a warrant for the arrest of the remaining 14 suspects who were absent.
Around 10am the following day, which was September 29, Afoko, Alhassan and Anyas led a huge mob and stormed the Ejura Police Station.
Singing war songs, the irate-looking group, who were holding clubs and other offensive weapons, forcibly took away several motorbikes and tricycles and bolted.
