Robbers Kill Policeman In Eastern Region

A police officer has been shot dead by highway robbers at Pramkese in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern Region.

The slain officer, identified as Sergeant Moses Tetteh Nartey, was part of two others dispatched to foil a robbery attack on the Akyem Pramkese- Takyiman road.

Another officer, identified as Coporal Christian Totimeh, also received gunshot wounds but he is on admission at St Dominic Hospital, Akwatia, receiving treatment.

Police information received indicated that the incident occurred on Monday evening around 6:50pm.

The information indicated that police at Pramkese received a distress call from commuters that some unidentified gunmen had blocked Pramkese – Takyiman motor road and were robbing commuters.

Sergeant Nartey, Corporal Totimeh and Detective Corporal Ibrahim Apaka with Service AK 47 riffles responded to the call on board a taxi cab since the station had no official police car.

The team, on reaching a section of the road at Ada Kwasi Junction, spotted a mini bus ahead of them at about 10 metres away.

The team on approaching noticed that the mini bus had stopped, compelling them to also slow down, when suddenly two unidentified men holding AK 47 riffles emerged from the bush onto the road.

The information indicated that the gunmen flashed a touch light onto the occupants of the taxi and when they discovered them to be   Policemen, they started firing at them indiscriminately.

The information indicated that Sergeant Nartey sustained two gunshot wound at his chest and one on his head while Corporal Totimeh also sustained a gunshot wound on his left rib.

“The team then retreated and rushed the injured officers to Pramkese Health Centre for treatment but Sgt Nartey was pronounced dead on arrival, while Cpl. Totimeh was referred to St Dominic Hospital, Akwatia, and was admitted for treatment.

The information indicated that the body of Sgt Nartey had since been deposited at Kade Government Hospital and that the district commander and the station officer had visited the injured officer at Akwatia and found his condition to be stable.

Meanwhile, the information indicated that reinforcement team from the Divisional Police Command, Asamankese, also came to support the local police in search for the bandits.
