Participants, organisers pose after the exercise
Robert Amartey Foundation last Saturday put together a tennis clinic for junior tennis players at the Ghana Tennis Club, Adabraka.
The foundation was set up eleven years ago.
The one-day event, which was meant to boost the performance of the young and upcoming tennis players within the areas of Adabraka and Osu, attracted over 50 children ages five to eighteen years.
The participants were taken through series of drills to improve specific aspects of the game, including approaching the net, aggressive base, and counter puncher.
In his closing remarks, US-based tennis coach and CEO of the Foundation, Robert Amartey stated, “This is an annual programme my foundation does every year, holding tennis clinics (introducing children to the modern ways of the game) and donating tennis equipment to my boyhood club, Ghana Tennis club.”
On the children’s development in the game of tennis, Mr. Amartey said that through the initiative, junior tennis in Adabraka has improved. One player was invited into the junior team.
“Robert Amartey Foundation will next year hold the clinic and distribution of tennis equipment in the Ashanti Region, specifically the 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club,” Amartey stated.
He added, “I want to use this opportunity to thank Sports Men Tennis Club (STC) and United States Professional Tennis Register (USPTR) for their unflinching support to me for the past 11 years.”
Executive board member of Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), Henry Boni, who is also a member of Ghana Tennis Club said, “As an Executive board member of the GTF, I want to commend Robert Amartey and his foundation for his continued support to the children of Adabraka and its environs.”
The partnership between the Federation and Foundation, Henry Boni said, “The results show that opening it up and encouraging the foundations to partner with the federation in developing talents has been successful. If you look at our track record in the juniors, we have been able to conquer West and Central Africa in Under 12 and 14, both boys and girls, so that track record clearly shows something good and this partnership needs to grow.”
