Rotary Club Of Accra-Premier Int. Rehabilitate Teshie Krobo Basic School

As part of efforts to provide quality education and safe environment for students, Rotary Club of Accra- Premier International has rehabilitated and handed over a classroom block to Teshie Krobo Basic School.

The rehabilitation includes roofing, maintenance, provision of a library facility and painting valued at GH¢ 120,000.

Speaking at a brief handing over ceremony at the school, President of Rotary club of Accra-premier international, Padmanbhan Menon, said the project which forms part of its support for basic education and literacy is expected to improve teaching and learning for students in the area.

According to her, though standard of education has  fallen in many parts of the country, the outbreak of COVID-19 also impacted heavily on learning outcomes based on research of about five out of about 108 countries hence the need for the project.

He said without additional measures to improve learning outcomes, an estimated 84 million people will stay out of school while an approximately 300 million students will be deprived of basic numeracy and literacy skills necessary for development.

He also indicated that for the sustainable development goals on education to be achieved, financing should be given a priority by nations.

District Governor, RI District 9104,Florence Maame Christiana Hagan, for her part said Rotary Club has over the years helped improved the wellbeing of people through the provision of some essential services such as portable water and school infrastructure.

She also called on the school authorities to ensure the renovated school block is well maintained especially the library which will not only enhance teaching and learning but also go a long way to support the students to achieve their aspirations in life.

She said while Rotary club continues to support various communities with development projects, individuals also have the responsibility to nurture their children while calling on the Chiefs and other stakeholders in the Teshie community to support other educational projects in the area.

“Everybody has the right to have good education, portable water, good living condition so let’s all work together to achieve that,” he added.

Deputy Director of Education for Ledzokuku, Rose Nkrumah commended the Rotary Club of Accra- Premier International for their commitment to the service of the country saying such intervention was  not only timely but also a shining example of  impactful community engagement and  Corporate  Social Responsibility.

She stated that the support will foster discipline, inspire confidence and motivate learners and teachers.

Madam Rose Nkrumah further called on civil society organisations among others to support the efforts of improving education infrastructure across the country while thanking the consultant for the project, Burhan Ibrahim Captain for the support.

Project Director, Kailash Chaurasia, said although Rotary Club would not relent in supporting school infrastructure and capacity building across the country, its support is largely dependent on assistance from donors.
