A 32-year-old agricultural engineer, Samuel Nartey George, popularly known as Dzata, defeated four other contenders to retain the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

The Returning Officer of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Benjamin Quantson, who declared the certified results, mentioned that Sam George polled 23,860 votes to defeat his closest contender, Sylvester Tetteh of the NPP who had a total of 13,588 votes and the others.

Cashmire Nii Okai Mensa of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) obtained 110 votes, while Richard Nartey of the All People’s Congress (APC) secured 103 votes, with Frederick Marmah Martey of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) securing 212 votes.

Prior to the general elections, Sam George, who is a presidential staffer, antagonized the rank and file of his party at both the constituency level and hierarchy.

He beat the incumbent MP, Enoch Teye Mensah in an acrimonious parliamentary primary.

The elections in the constituency were generally peaceful.

Mr. George, in an address, said “to the chiefs and people of Ningo-Prampram, I have one thing to say. I will not let you down. This started last year on November 22 to be precise when I emerged victorious in the NDC primaries.

“People have destroyed and attacked my personality but the true will of the people have prevailed.”

He promised to serve the constituents in Ningo-Prampram effectively, adding that “those who insulted us they only made me stronger and inspired me to prove them wrong. I chose not to respond or talk to the media during the campaign but speak today. I have been declared by the Returning Officer and that is the best to response to all the allegations made against me.
