The Black Satellites on Saturday set off their campaign
at this year’s African Games on a good note defeating Burundi’s U-20 side 2-1.
Striker Awudu Tahiru scored a brace to dispatch the
East African country in a difficult game.
The striker scored two successful first-half
goals, which Ghana relied on to earn their first three points in Group B.
The 19-year-old found the back of the net after
16 minutes of play to put the Satellites in front before adding another just
five minutes later with a brilliant goal.
Ghana, however, conceded a goal before the half-time,
which derailed the Satellites dream of having a starting clean sheet.
The Satellites will face Senegal in their next
game this Wednesday before facing Mali in the final Group game on August 24.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), on behalf of government and the good people of Ghana, wished ‘Team Ghana’ the very best of luck as they begin their quest to win laurels for the nation at the 12th African Games in Rabat, Morocco.
The ministry is optimistic about a successful outcome after an impressive assignment by the International Games and Competitions Committee (IGCC).
The ministry appealed to Ghanaians to remember the team in support and prayers to propel them to victory as Ghana seeks to rewrite the scripts of sports on the continental front, a release signed by Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Youth & Sports Minister, stated.
