A TRIGGER-happy security guard has been apprehended for allegedly shooting a man with a pump action gun, following a misunderstanding at Asenua near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.

Suspect Stephen Soyelle, reportedly, became angry when a vehicle in which the victim, Akwasi Commey was traveling in, drove through his organization’s premises due to traffic on the Mamponteng-Kumasi main road.

The security man was said to have signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop but this resulted in a heated argument between Soyelle and the people onboard the vehicle around 9:30pm on May 4, 2024.

As the argument lingered on, the security man, who was reportedly angry, fired two quick warning shots, to scare the people away but one of the bullets, unfortunately, hit the back of Akwasi Commey to injure him.

A Mamponteng Police statement, which confirmed the shooting incident, said suspect Soyelle has since been apprehended and detained to assist the police in their investigations into the case.

Part of the police report, sighted by the paper, disclosed that “Suspect is in custody whilst two spent AAA cartridges and the pump action gun are retained for evidential purposes”.

Explaining further as to what led to the shooting, it said “On 4/5/2024 about 2130 hours, Police Mamponteng received a distress call from Akwasi Commey of Aboaso that a security man has shot him and needed Police assistance.

“The Mamponteng night patrol team rushed to the scene and met suspect Stephen Soyelle, who was holding a Mossberg pump action gun surrounded by people.

“Suspect was disarmed, arrested and brought to the station. Victim Akwasi Commey, with blood-soaked shirt was sent to Mamponteng Government Hospital for immediate medical treatment,” it said.
