SOME SECURITY personnel who hail from Gomoa Tarkwa in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region over the weekend cut the sod for the construction of a new police station in the community.
The project is being funded by security personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service as well as the Ghana Police Service who are indigenes of Gomoa Tarkwa, with support from residents. It comes as the first since 1969 when the last project in the community was initiated, but did not see completion.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Assistant Commissioner of Police Osei-Assibey indicated that the lack of a proper police facility in the community had posed serious challenges to the work of police personnel in the area, a situation residents said did not augur well with the community.
He, therefore, lauded the pioneers for the ‘laudable’ initiative and appealed to the contractors to ensure that they do a professional job in constructing an ultra-modern facility that meets global standards, while calling on residents to support the project.
On his part, Supt Anthony Arthur, a native of Gomoa Tarkwa and lead of the project, intimated that the project would go a long way to support the community in terms of its security needs.
According to him, many others before them had supported the community’s development through the provision of health facilities, schools and other social amenities; and stressed that it was high time the community addressed its security needs.
“We are aiming that within two years the project will be completed, and we are calling on all and sundry to support us since the community lacks several social amenities,” he said.
