The Headmaster of St John’s Senior High School in Sekondi, Anthony Jonathan Mensah has revealed that the school recorded a 100 percent pass in the 2016 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
He also indicated that the school has once again qualified for the 2017 National Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition.
In his welcome address at the 65th Speech and Prize Giving Day and 12th Founder’s Day commemoration, the headmaster touted the enviable 100 percent WASSCE pass records of the school over the years and the commitment of his staff to do more.
It was on the theme “65 years of unbroken delivery of quality education: The memories of yesterday, the joys of today and the hopes of tomorrow”.
The colorful ceremony which was put together by the 1977 year group, brought together past and present students of the school.
The event began with the inspection of the school’s Cadet Corps by the Chief of Naval Staff, Real Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo and other dignitaries.
Mr. Mensah, who is an old boy of the school also called ‘Old saint’ assured parents of the school’s commitment at instilling discipline into the students adding “We believe in the holistic training of the human being so morality remains the cardinal aspect of our training”.
He noted, “We have committed staff members who are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure success of our students”.
Mr. Mensah implored corporate Ghana to support the school with a school bus explaining that “the only bus which is 10 years old is virtually grounded and has rendered the school immobile.
“It is sad to note that it is only the St. John’s School in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis that did not benefit from buses and pickups distributed by the previous government across the country”, he added.
He mentioned that only 18 of the 82 staff of the school were accommodated adding that some GETFund projects of the school had been abandoned indicating that “these are some of the challenges facing the school which require immediate attention”.
Joseph Ofori-Teiko who was the guest speaker encouraged the students to desist from deviant behaviours.
Awards were given to best students while a biology laboratory which had been refurbished was handed over to the school.
