Serene Insurance, UGMC Observe Int’l Nurses & Midwives’ Day

Serene Insurance, a member of the First Sky Group and a general insurance company, has partnered the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to observe activities marking this year’s International Day of the Nurse and Midwife.

Observed every year on May 5 and May 12 to honour midwifery and nursing practitioners and students, globally and nationally, the UGMC chapter of the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Association held a health screening exercise for Serene Insurance staff.

The Serene Insurance Staff underwent comprehensive review of their health status and receive professional advice on steps to address any medical concerns observed by the team of doctors, nurse and support staff from the UGMC.

Chief Executive Officer of Serene Insurance, Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, commended nurses, midwives, midwifery and nursing students for the central role they play in the delivery of quality healthcare.

She observed that the work nurses and midwives do goes a long way to make significant transformations in the lives of patients, especially mothers and children, applauding retired practitioners.

Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services UGMC, Judith Asiamah, reiterated the unique role practitioners play in a demanding work environment.

“In these profound moments of mounting calls for better quality of healthcare services, we pledge that as practitioners and professionals, our high ethical values and standards will continue to be our blazing light assuring our mothers and all women folk that we remain committed to delivering the finest, most person-focused attention imaginable throughout pregnancy, birth and post-delivery”, Mrs. Asiamah guaranteed.

Chief Executive Officer of the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Dr. Anim Boamah, declaring his full support for the celebration urged the staff of the hospital to participate fully in activities lined up to show solidarity to celebrate midwives and nurses.

Serene Insurance is well capitalized with about GHS59 million and was the first insurance company in Ghana to officially announce full capitalization in January 2021, far above the limit set for new capital requirements by the insurance regulator, the National Insurance Commission. It recorded about GHS 62m in gross written premiums for the 2022 financial year representing 43.2% increase as against GHS 43.3m in 2021.
