‘Sex Demands Led To My Absence From Nollywood’

Jumoke George

Ace Nollywood actress, Jumoke George, has opened up about her 14-year absence from the film industry, attributing her prolonged career break to her commitment to moral principles and refusal to compromise her values.

In an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Jumoke shared how challenges related to her dark complexion and her unwillingness to exchange sex for roles led to setbacks.

Reflecting on her experiences, Jumoke explained, “My dark complexion was not the only setback I faced in my career. Another reason why I did not get movie roles for like 14 years is my refusal to sleep around. When directors complained that I was too dark, I would tell them to adjust the lighting in the scene to make me look lighter.”

The actress described how her principles led to rejection from multiple directors who, she explained, attempted to pressure her into inappropriate exchanges.

“You can’t push me to do something I do not want to do. I will glow with this skin till old age and do not forget, black does not crack,” she added confidently.

According to her, when she finally questioned a director about her lack of roles, she was told that she had been deliberately excluded because of her refusal to compromise her morals.

She shared, “I just started crying, and when I got home, I prayed to God to take control.”
